Not so much a band as a procession of amazing talents lead by monsieur Jamie Stewart, Xiu Xiu are into their tenth year as a musical entity and with that milestone brings their eleventh album, primly titled Always. Already gaining very decent reviews (AV Club) for it’s curious call to join with Stewart in his own private den of the morose all the while maintaining the wierdo electro-pop facade that they’re known for. If you’re old or knowledgeable enough to know what SPK sound like, that’s where they’ve ended up mostly. And it’s good territory.
And with a new album, there’s always a new tour to match, in this case a massive 33 date trip through 13 European states and the hearts and minds of countless adoring fans. We say countless, because there really are a lot of them. Jamie Stewart, for all his quirks and concern for the world at large, really is good fun at parties.
